Microsoft is expected to reveal specifics about its next custom silicon architecture for speeding AI workloads, according to sources close to The Information.
According to reports, the upcoming chip announcement will take place in November during Microsoft’s annual Ignite conference.
Microsoft AI Chip Showcase Date
The conference, which will be held in Seattle from November 14 to 17, is intended to showcase all of the company’s work in the field of artificial intelligence.
The rumored release of an AI processor will definitely take center stage in the presentation, as demand for AI accelerators has been so high that organizations are unable to obtain GPUs.
NVIDIA dominates the industry, with its H100 and A100 GPUs powering the majority of the AI infrastructure worldwide.
To Counter Nvidia
The operating system behemoth intends to equal or beat NVIDIA’s services and reduce the cost of AI infrastructure with the release of a bespoke AI chip codenamed Athena.
Because H100 GPUs can cost up to 30,000 USD, constructing a data center equipped with H100s can cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
The cost might be reduced by employing homemade chips, and Microsoft could become less reliant on NVIDIA to offer the necessary backbone of AI servers in the coming years.
Nonetheless, we are excited to see what the firm has in store, and we will provide coverage of the Microsoft Ignite event in November.
