For the first time, Pakistani mangoes will be transported by land to Xinjiang, China. This initiative is being led by Sadequain Shipping Line, a logistics company based in Karachi.
Pakistani mangoes to Xinjiang
They have previously shipped seafood by land from Karachi to Kashgar in China, giving them the confidence to export mangoes.
The mango will be transported via the Karakoram Highway from Multan, a major mango-producing city, to Tashkurgan.
The mangoes will then be distributed to various cities throughout Xinjiang. Refrigerated containers will be used during transportation to keep the temperature stable between -20 and 25 degrees Celsius.
The journey from Multan to Tashkurgan is expected to take six days, including time for customs clearance in Sost and Tashkurgan. Aside from mangoes, Gilgit-Baltistan cherries are also planned for export to Xinjiang.
Sadequain Shipping Line plans to expand into other parts of China, specifically Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Tayyab Khan, the company’s CEO, will travel to China next week to meet with potential partners about the new route.
This development is significant for Pakistan-China trade because it strengthens their economic ties and creates new business opportunities.
