Is someone sending you unsolicited emails? Blocking them can help you regain your peace. Here’s how to go about it. I recently began receiving a slew of harassing emails to my Gmail account.
Although they were not threatening, they quickly became annoying, and the sender clearly didn’t get the hint that I didn’t want anything to do with their noise or service. I realized that blocking the sender was my only option.
It took me a moment to realize that the ability to block senders in Gmail was right there in front of me the entire time, on both the web and mobile apps. When that sender was blocked, everything returned to normal (relative) order.
When you’re being harassed by an individual, a company continues to send you spam, or you suspect someone is targeting you for some nefarious reason, blocking senders can come in handy. Gmail includes the feature. Let me demonstrate how it’s done.
Blocking a sender in Gmail Web
What you’ll need: You’ll only need a valid Gmail account and a sender to block for this. That’s all.
1. View the blocked email
The first step is to log into Gmail’s web interface and select an email from the sender you want to block.
2. Stop the sender
A three-dot menu button is located on the right edge of the email. To open the context menu, click that button.
Select Block X (where X is the sender’s name) from that menu. To confirm, a popup window will appear, and you must click Block.
3. Sender unblocking
You can always unblock a sender if you change your mind about them.
To do so, in Gmail, click the gear icon and then, from the popup, click See all settings. Click the Filters and Blocked Addresses button in the resulting window.
You’ll see the sender you just blocked at the bottom of that page. To undo the blocking, click unblock to the right of the sender’s listing.
