Imran Khan Stadium in Peshawar has taken a major step forward with the successful installation of modern LED floodlights. This upgrade completes a long-awaited infrastructure improvement and makes the venue capable of hosting night cricket matches for the first time.
Stadium Declared Ready for Domestic Cricket
With floodlights now operational, the stadium is fully prepared to host competitive domestic matches. Authorities have confirmed that upcoming tournaments, including fixtures of the National T20 Cup, can now be scheduled at the venue.
Key Features Strengthen Match Readiness
The stadium offers seating for around 25,000 spectators, a distinctive curved roof design, and a well-maintained playing surface. Combined with night-match capability, these features significantly improve its suitability as a modern cricket venue.
PSL Hosting Still Uncertain
Despite the upgrades, the stadium’s inclusion in the Pakistan Super League remains undecided. Although it was previously discussed as a potential PSL venue, it was ultimately not included in the final list for hosting matches.
Earlier PSL Discussions Explained
In late 2025, PSL officials had acknowledged that the stadium was close to meeting required standards, with only minor improvements pending. Inspections were conducted, and Peshawar was briefly considered alongside other cities as a possible host.
Positive Sign for Cricket in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Even without PSL matches for now, the stadium’s readiness is being viewed as a strong boost for cricket in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The successful upgrades keep hopes alive that Imran Khan Stadium could host top-tier events in the future.
