Honda Atlas BR-V Stops Production After Nine Years in Pakistan

The Honda Atlas BR-V has officially left Pakistan’s auto market. Honda Atlas Cars Ltd (HACL) confirmed that it has stopped making the BR-V at its Lahore plant, saying the model had simply reached the end of its product life. No replacement has been announced, and the seven-seater has been quietly removed from Honda’s official Pakistani website.

Why Honda Atlas BR-V Production Ended

A senior HACL executive told Dawn that “the vehicle has completed its lifecycle, and that’s why its production has been halted.” The company was clear that the decision had nothing to do with parts shortages.

A top HACL official confirmed the company had planned three to four months in advance to gradually halt BR-V production. By the time the line stopped, monthly output had already dropped to just 25 to 50 units. That is a long way from the model’s early days: Honda began assembling the BR-V in Pakistan in April 2017, producing 648 units and selling 527 units in that first month alone.

A Nine-Year Run From Rs2.23 Million to Rs6.4 Million

The first-generation BR-V was launched in Pakistan as a locally assembled model on 21 April 2017. At its launch, the BR-V was priced at around Rs2.23 million for the i-VTEC variant and Rs2.33 million for the i-VTEC S variant. By the time production stopped, its price had climbed to around Rs5.7 million to Rs6.4 million. That near-tripling in price over nine years reflects the broader pressures every car buyer in Pakistan has felt.

The BR-V was Honda’s first seven-seater to be assembled in Pakistan and was marketed as a practical crossover aimed at families seeking additional seating, greater ground clearance and Honda’s brand appeal. Honda Atlas launched a locally assembled facelifted BR-V in October 2019, offered in only two trim levels: the i-VTEC MT with manual transmission and the i-VTEC CVT with automatic transmission.

Sales Numbers Tell the Real Story

The numbers are stark. PAMA data shows combined production and sales of the BR-V and HR-V plunged to 120 and 191 units respectively in July-August 2026, down from 1,460 and 731 units in the same period in 2025. Keep in mind these figures combine both models, so the BR-V’s individual share was even smaller.

A Honda dealer confirmed the BR-V had already disappeared from showrooms, with buyers showing little interest in booking or purchasing the vehicle. Honda vendors also confirmed the BR-V’s production closure, saying the vehicle was simply not selling well.

Chinese and Korean Cars Pushed It Out

The lifecycle explanation is only part of the picture. Honda’s own HR-V arrived in Pakistan in 2022 with newer styling and pulled buyers toward itself. At the same time, Chinese brands such as Haval and Chery moved into the same SUV and crossover space with more features and newer platforms.

PAMA data also indicates that the BR-V and HR-V have struggled to attract buyers since Chinese and Korean models entered the market, particularly hybrid, range-extended electric and battery-electric vehicles. The BR-V’s old petrol-only 1.5-litre engine had no hybrid or electric angle to offer buyers who were increasingly looking at fuel costs. With petrol prices in Pakistan continuing to shift, running costs matter more than ever to family car buyers.

The vehicle continued to use the first-generation platform even as newer crossovers entered the Pakistani market with updated styling, technology, safety equipment and powertrain options. Currency fluctuations, taxation changes, import restrictions, localization issues and changing production costs have all affected Pakistan’s automotive sector in recent years, making it hard for older models to justify their price tags.

Honda has not been standing still, though. It launched the HR-V e hybrid in July 2025 and in September 2026 cut prices on HR-V variants after hybrid tax changes, with the HR-V e dropping by about Rs1.07 million to roughly Rs9.299 million and the VTi-S variant falling by Rs500,000.

What This Means for Buyers and BR-V Owners

Honda’s current Pakistani lineup continues with the Honda City, Honda Civic and Honda HR-V, but no direct BR-V successor has been announced. Honda has neither announced a replacement for the BR-V nor explained whether the decision is related to sales, product strategy, or changes to its future crossover lineup.

If you already own a BR-V, the good news is that parts supply was never the issue here. The HACL executive specifically said the company had no trouble getting parts from Japan or other countries, so after-sale servicing at authorised Honda workshops should not be affected in the near term. However, as production has now fully stopped, the used-car value of the BR-V may soften over time as the model ages without any factory support or updates.

The broader picture for Pakistani car buyers is that the seven-seater family crossover space is now more open than it has been in years. Pakistani consumers have shown growing interest in modern crossovers and SUVs, while Chinese automakers have entered the market with newer and feature-rich alternatives. The BR-V’s exit is likely to push its remaining buyers toward the HR-V, or toward Chinese brands offering more features at a similar or lower price point.

The BR-V is also not alone in this. Suzuki’s Wagon R ended its local run around March 2025 after roughly 11 years, while the Ravi pickup was also discontinued in 2025. Lucky Motor Corporation discontinued the Kia Picanto in August 2026. Pakistan’s auto market is clearly going through a shake-up, with older models making way for newer-generation vehicles and growing Chinese competition reshaping buyer options.

For those curious about Honda Atlas Cars’ full history in Pakistan, the company has been assembling Honda vehicles locally since 1994 and the BR-V represented one of its more ambitious bets on the family crossover segment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did Honda Atlas stop making the BR-V in Pakistan?

Honda Atlas says the BR-V completed its product lifecycle. Monthly production had fallen to only 25-50 units and buyer demand had dropped sharply, partly due to competition from Chinese and Korean crossovers and partly because the model was based on a first-generation platform that was already phased out in other markets.

Will Honda bring a replacement for the BR-V?

Not yet. A senior HACL executive said it is too early to confirm any replacement. The company has not named a successor model, so for now the HR-V is the closest option in Honda’s local lineup for buyers who want a crossover with Honda reliability.

Can existing Honda Atlas BR-V owners still get spare parts and service?

Yes, for now. The HACL executive confirmed that parts supply from Japan and other countries was never an issue. Authorised Honda service centres in Pakistan should still be able to service BR-V models. It is wise to stock up on any fast-wearing parts if you plan to keep the car long-term.

How much did the BR-V cost when it was first launched compared to now?

The BR-V started at around Rs2.23 million when it launched in April 2017. By the time production ended in 2026, prices had risen to between Rs5.7 million and Rs6.4 million, nearly three times the original price, which made it a tough sell against newer and better-equipped rivals at similar price points.
