Because I was using Linux, the screensavers were more scientific in nature. Those screensavers did have a purpose…they protected your screen from burn-in.
Pixel’s screensavers
In fact, they serve no purpose other than to provide you with something to look at when your screen is locked. In addition, Google Pixel phones have a hidden button. Here’s how to get it.
The same is true for your mobile phone; some come with a screensaver that doesn’t save much but can display various items for your enlightenment or pleasure.
Consider the Pixel smartphone. You have a few screensaver options on these devices. You can enable or disable it, as well as select from a clock, a color, or photos. Although there aren’t many options, you probably don’t need more than that.
Personally, I prefer to use the clock because I like to know what time it is. You might want to display a rainbow of colors or a collection of photos to remind you of your loved ones, a memorable vacation, or something completely different.
Of course, configuring the screensaver does not override the date, weather, and notification options you’ve previously set. Furthermore, the Pixel phone’s screensaver only activates when one of two events occurs:
- The phone is being charged.
- The phone has been docked and is charging.
Because of these features, unlike on other phones, the screensaver appears only when your device is charging (or docked on a wireless stand).
Another thing to keep in mind is that any Pixel Stand settings you have configured will take precedence over the screensaver. To put it another way, Pixel Stand settings take precedence over screensaver settings.
If you use a Pixel Stand, you can customize what appears when the phone is docked by tapping the gear icon that appears when you place the phone on the stand.
If you aren’t using a Pixel Stand, you can use the standard Android screensaver found in the Pixel phone. Allow me to demonstrate how to configure that feature.
- How to Set Up the Pixel Screensaver
What you’ll need: All you’ll need is a Pixel phone to complete this task. Let’s make it happen.
1. Go to the Settings menu.
Log in to your Pixel phone, and then double-tap the notification shade to open the Settings app.
2. Navigate to the Screen Saver page
Tap Display from the Settings window, and then Screen saver from the resulting page.
3. Turn on the screensaver
To activate the screensaver, tap the On/Off slider until it is in the On position.
4. Select a screensaver
After you enable it, you can choose the type of screensaver you want. You can select the clock, colors, or photos. If you go with the clock, you can choose between digital and analog.
When you select photos, you have several options, including Only use Wi-Fi for data, Photos fill screen, Animated zoom effect, and albums derived from any installed app on your device.
If you choose photos, you can choose from any collection, date, or even individual photos saved to Google Photos.
