All teams in the 50-over Asia Cup 2023, which is set to begin today, omitted the name of the host country, Pakistan, off their uniforms. The teams’ new uniforms for the Asia Cup were unveiled yesterday, and cricket aficionados may have noticed that the emblem does not include the name of the host country.
Concerned fans brought up the fact that, despite the competition taking place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), jerseys from the previous year still bore the name Sri Lanka. Pakistan was originally tasked with hosting the Asia Cup in 2023, however India ultimately decided not to participate and play their matches there.
After some diplomatic back-and-forth, Sri Lanka agreed to serve as a cooperative host, dividing up the organizational duties with Pakistan.
Asia cup will have its glory
Having both countries work together as co-hosts exemplifies the cricketing community’s flexibility and the togetherness that the game can inspire in trying times. Even though most of the event is actually taking place in Sri Lanka, it is important to note that Pakistan is the official host.
Now, from August 30 to September 17, just four of the matches, including the final one, would be played in Pakistan. Pakistan is facing Nepal at 2:30 p.m. PST in the opening match of the tournament at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
