According to Disney Plus‘s second-quarter financial report released on Wednesday, the streaming service added 7.9 million new subscribers in the first three months of 2022.
The streaming service currently has a whopping 87.6 million global members, while Disney Plus Hotstar boasts a promising 50.1 million foreign subscribers.
In comparison to last year’s total of 44 million users, the United States and Canada alone added more than 7.1 million new members this year, increasing the total to more than 51 million.
Hulu and ESPN Plus customers have increased to more than 205 million, up from 196.4 million in January.
The introduction of many original programs such as Cheaper by the Dozen, Marvel’s Moon Knight, and Pixar’s Turning Red in March was a major highlight for Disney Plus, which witnessed a rise in visitors. Encanto, a popular family film that reached twelve weeks in Nielsen’s weekly streaming top 10 in the United States, contributed to the platform’s popularity as well.
Meanwhile, Disney Plus’ competitor Netflix continues to trail behind, citing a 200,000-subscriber loss in the most recent quarter, which is also the first fall in more than a decade.
However, the streaming service still boasts roughly 222 million users.
Last quarter, HBO and HBO Max added 3 million new members, bringing their total number of subscribers to 77 million.
Despite the great success of Season 2 of Euphoria earlier this year, the streaming platform still behind Disney Plus.
