Google just updated its Amazon Alexa Skill to operate with its latest Nest cameras, making the smart home ecosystem a little more connected.
If you already have a range of Nest and Alexa devices, they’ll operate better together in the future. From your Amazon Fire TV to any Echo device, you can now stream live feeds from your Nest cameras, doorbells, and other devices.
Last month, Amazon revealed that its doorbells and security cameras will operate with Google Nest, Ring, Abode, and other third-party devices, in a similar move to open up its own smart home ecosystem. Google Home and Apple Homekit already function with Amazon’s Ring doorbell.
A few more Nest and Alexa integrations have been available for a time. If you have a Google Nest thermostat, for example, you may ask Alexa to adjust the temperature in your home.
Alexa capabilities were limited on older Nest cameras and doorbells, but the new skill allows for considerably more cross-platform cooperation.
The revised ability means Alexa will now allow streaming from the Nest Cam with Floodlight, as well as the battery-powered models of Nest Cam and Nest Doorbell to the Echo Show, Fire TV, or Fire Tablets, according to a recent post on Google Nest’s blog.
You may also use any of your Alexa devices to talk to people via your door if you have a Nest Doorbell (such as the Echo, Echo Show, Fire TV and Fire Tablet).
Alexa will eventually be able to alert you when a Nest Cam or Nest Doorbell senses a visitor at your front door.
