Karachi: Pakistan’s overall exports, particularly in the textile sector, are expected to benefit from the new USA tariff policy.
This was stated by Shaikh Shafiq Jhok Wala, Chief Coordinator of the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA), while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the 29th Textile Asia 2025 held on Saturday at the Expo Center, Karachi.
He highlighted that the imposition of heavy tariffs on China and other countries by the USA will create increased demand for textiles, garments, and related products in the American market. This presents a significant opportunity for Pakistani companies to expand their exports to the US.
Favorable Trade Climate for Pakistan
Jhok Wala noted that while the changing international trade climate poses challenges, it is likely to be favorable for Pakistan’s industries and export growth.
He further stated that the Pakistani government is actively working to facilitate Chinese and Vietnamese companies in establishing industrial units within Pakistan’s special economic zones. These companies will collaborate with local investors and industries to produce “Made-in-Pakistan” products and export their brands through Pakistan.
With this initiative, Pakistan aims to increase its exports to $35 billion in the next few years, with the textile sector playing a major role.

Textile Asia 2025 Showcases Business Potential
At the event, Project Director Textile Asia, Muhammad Uzair Nizam, emphasized that the strong participation of foreign delegates and national business leaders in the trade fair reflects the growing business opportunities in Pakistan’s textile sector.
He stated that the primary objective of the trade fair is to boost the textile sector’s contribution to Pakistan’s GDP through innovation, technological advancement, and development.
International Participation at the Event
The session was attended by foreign diplomats, including representatives from Turkey, China, Germany, and other countries, highlighting the global interest in Pakistan’s textile industry.
