Pakistan is facing a very hot period with many people getting sick from heatwave. In Sindh, Mohenjo-daro had temperatures of 49C (120F) on Wednesday. The heat will increase in the month of June.
This is 8C higher than usual for May. Schools in Punjab closed for a week because of the heat. They told people to stay inside, but many workers went to work anyway because they needed money.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department says the heat will last until May 27 in most of the country. They say Punjab and Sindh will be very hot.
They say two more heatwaves will come in June. The ministry blames cutting down trees and other bad things for the extreme weather.
Romina Khurshid Alam, the PM’s climate change helper, asked federal and provincial governments to do everything they can to help people, like old people and kids, stay safe from the heat.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department says temperatures are 5 to 6 degrees higher than usual in many places.
They say 26 districts in Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan have very hot weather. They say it will stay hot for three waves during the summer.
Stay Cool and Healthy in Hotwave
When it’s hot, it’s important to stay cool and drink lots of water. Hot weather can be dangerous and cause problems like feeling dizzy or too hot.
It’s really important to eat the right foods to help your body stay cool and healthy.
Eat watermelon, cucumber, leafy greens, berries, citrus fruits, and coconut water to stay hydrated. Don’t drink caffeine drinks, alcohol, or eat spicy, heavy, greasy, or salty snacks when it’s hot.
