The price of goods like sugar, onions, and wheat flour is making life more difficult for middle-class consumers during these tough economic times.
Price of Household Goods Increased Shockingly
Common in many homes, onions are currently priced between Rs. 200–220 per kg, up from Rs. 150–180 per kg the previous week.
The price per kg has increased significantly from Rs. 120-150 two weeks ago.
According to vendors, this occurred as a result of increased exports of onions to other nations.
Haji Shajahan, the president of the Falahi Anjuman Wholesale Vegetable Market, announced that the pricing for vendors has increased from Rs. 4,500–5,000 per 40 kg to Rs. 7,000.
This occurred as a result of India ceasing to export onions to other nations until March 2024.
Onions Cost
Since there are more onions available locally, the price for sellers has dropped back to between Rs. 5,500 and Rs. 6,000 per 40 kg, but it’s unclear what will happen in the future.
The sealing of the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan also prevented the import of onions, which further increased costs in Pakistan.
There is concern that Iran and Afghanistan may export onions to nations that primarily import onions from India.
Prices for flour have increased from Rs. 122 and Rs. 135 to Rs. 127 and Rs. 140 per kg for categories such as no. 2.5 and fine/maida.
However, this is a result of the delayed arrival of Russian wheat.
PFMA Report
The head of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association in Sindh, Aamir Chaudhry, reported that the cost of Russian wheat at the port increased from Rs. 10,300 per 100 kg bag the previous week to Rs. 10,800.
Moreover, a shop owner in the Tariq Road area claimed that fine flour and branded chakki used to cost Rs. 154 and Rs. 148 per kg, respectively.
However, by today they cost Rs. 158 and Rs. 152.
However, on November 16, the prices were considerably lower, at Rs. 150 and Rs. 144 per kg.
The head of KWGA, Rauf Ibrahim, reported that in the last four days, wholesale sugar prices increased by Rs. 15 per kg to Rs. 131.
This occurred because of the belief that sugar millers permitted to export sugar to other nations.
