There was a groundbreaking ceremony for “the Project for the Extension of Maternal and Child Health Care Facility in Sindh” by Japan at Liaquat University Hospital Jamshoro.
Minister for Health and Population Welfare Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, Secretary of the Department of Sindh Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Acting Consul General of Japan Nakagawa Yasushi, and Senior Representative of the JICA Pakistan Office HaraTsuyoshi were all present.
A mother and child healthcare center will be built at Liaquat University Hospital in Jamshoro thanks to a grant of about 3.445 billion yen from the Government of Japan.
The gift of Japan will have many facilities
There will be a neonatal intensive care unit, a maternal and fetal intensive care unit, an outpatient department, an operating room, an obstetrics ward, and a laboratory among the 98 beds and 30 cots at the new institution.
The building is expected to be finished by April of 2025. When the center finally opens, expectant mothers and their children will have far better access to medical care.
We anticipate 420 admissions to the neonatal intensive care unit and 63,000 outpatient visits per year. In Sindh, there is a dearth of maternity and newborn care facilities.
Families from all throughout the southern section of Sindh will benefit from this project, since it will increase accessibility and improve the likelihood of saving lives while reducing the burden on tertiary hospitals in Karachi and Hyderabad.
The health of mothers and children is a top concern for the government of Japan and JICA as they pledge their ongoing support for Pakistan’s most vulnerable citizens as part of the country’s health sector strategy.
