According to an announcement made by Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) for Youth Affairs, the laptop scheme would be reinstated in the Prime Minister Youth Programme this year. SAPM officials recently held a press conference where they announced plans to distribute 100,000 computers to young people as part of the programme.
She lamented the previous administration’s decision to end the programme and emphasised the value of laptops in allowing young people to continue their education and find distant employment despite the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The computers handed out by the previous government, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, were crucial in ensuring business as usual despite the difficulties.
The laptop will encourage startup culture
To further encourage young people to take part in the startup culture, the government has also established the National Innovation Award. The purpose of this award is to highlight and reward original thought and action.
The government’s dedication to encouraging youth fitness was highlighted in the SAPM. Approximately 54,000 kids took part in sporting events last year. Twenty-five regions held hockey tryouts, and twenty-eight held volleyball tryouts.
In addition, the SAPM has announced that registration for football trials has begun across Pakistan, giving young people from all corners of the country a chance to show off their skills.
Collectively, these programmes demonstrate the government’s commitment to youth empowerment and engagement through expanding access to education, stimulating creativity, and fostering physical activity and healthy eating habits among young people.
