A police public relations official in Islamabad said on Tuesday that the police emergency helpline “Pucar-15” had received 4,446 phone calls in the past 24 hours from people in need of police, fire brigade, ambulance, and other services.
According to him, out of a total of 4,446 calls to the emergency hotline “Pucar-15,” 3,776 were hoaxes or otherwise of no use to the police.
The CPO of Safe City was instructed by Islamabad’s Inspector General of Police, Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, to pursue legal action against those responsible for fraudulent calls to the police emergency number.
Strict action again spam phone calls
“If anyone tries to waste the time of the police by making fake calls or passing derogatory remarks to the personnel, they will be dealt with iron hands,” he promised.
CPO Safe City asked the public to only contact the police in cases of urgency, fearing that legitimate incidents requiring police attention could go unnoticed if resources were diverted to answering hoax calls.
