In Pakistan, where one kilogram of chicken meat currently costs between Rs. 700 and Rs. 705 in the twin towns of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, prices for chicken meat have reached an all-time high.
In addition, poultry farmers assert that a lack of feed has forced them to shut down more than half of their businesses, creating a serious shortage and driving up expenses.
As a result of the significant public outcry over this issue, people are now pleading with the government to act quickly to prevent the surge in the prices.
Farmers are concerned that chicken production may soon stop due to the feed shortage, which would result in drastically higher expenses.
Reason behind Chicken Feed scarcity
The main reason for the feed issue is the government’s opposition to the importation of genetically modified soybeans, a crucial component of chicken feed.
The shutdown of broiler feed factories was compelled by this choice. Wholesalers worry that the price of chicken meat may soon reach Rs. 1,000 per kilogram if authorities do not act quickly.
The price of meat is greater in Rawalpindi and Islamabad than it is in other places, with costs in Lahore reaching Rs. 575 per kilogram and Rs. 580 in Gujranwala, according to a poll done by a local news website.
Due to the scarcity of feed, it is especially difficult for poultry producers to meet the demand for eggs over the winter, which raises egg costs and raises concerns about a possible supply shortage.
In light of these circumstances, citizens have urged the government to address the poultry issue and make goods more widely and affordably available.
