Pakistan and Germany signed two framework agreements worth €28 million focusing on Pakistan’s socioeconomic development and long-term development.
The agreements in the energy and governance sectors were signed by German Ambassador to Pakistan Alfred Grannas, who represented the German government, and Secretary Ministry of Economic Affairs Dr. Kazim Niaz. KfW and GIZ representatives were also present at the signing ceremony.
Germany will provide grant funding of €23 million through GIZ under the framework agreement-Technical Cooperation Agreement 2021.
Three projects will be funded under this framework agreement: “Participatory Local Governance”, “Building Transition to Promote Energy Efficiency in Buildings”, and “Strengthening Climate Adaptation and Resilience”.
The Participatory Local Governance project, with a total funding of €10 million, will increase the capacity of local governments in KP and Punjab to meet local needs and priorities, while the Building Transition to Promote Energy Efficiency in Buildings project, with a total funding of €3 million, has an overall goal of promoting energy efficiency through building transition models through political, legal, and regulatory interventions, while using inventories and pilot projects.
The €10 million commitment to Strengthening Climate Adaptation and Resilience will help to improve all prerequisites for climate change adaptation and risk management.
In addition, another Framework agreement, the Financial Cooperation Agreement 2020, worth €5 million, was signed today.
This framework agreement will only include one project, “Self-Employment for Women in the Health Sector,” which will be carried out by KfW.
This project will help to create and secure job and income opportunities, which will help to meet international environmental and social standards and contribute to inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
The Secretary of Economic Affairs thanked the German government for its assistance and praised the German Federation’s important role in promoting economic growth and sustainable development in the country.
