Five years after going on sale there, the Kia Stinger has been withdrawn in the UK. This was anticipated because the South Korean vehicle manufacturer is ceasing manufacturing of the Stinger fastback sports car.
Kia announced earlier in July 2022 that it would stop producing the Stinger by the second quarter of 2022 owing to persistently weak sales. Kia also released its production plans for all of its South Korean facilities. In most international countries, including the UK, the all-electric Kia EV6 GT will replace the Stinger as the company’s high-performance model.
According to Paul Philpott, CEO of Kia UK:
“The launch of the Stinger will go down as a transformative moment for Kia. Its driver-focused ‘grand tourer’ credentials, paired with Kia’s reputation for vehicle quality and design, made it an incredibly compelling car for drivers. At the same time, it also had a transformative effect on how people saw Kia. For the same reasons, the EV6 GT is the ideal car to take the baton from the Stinger in the UK. The EV6 GT is an important part of this plan, and a true new flagship for the Kia brand.”
In addition, Philpott stated that by 2027, Kia would have 14 electric vehicles (EVs) available in its lineup worldwide. The EV6 GT, which will replace the Stinger, will have significantly more power and torque because of its 160 kW front and 270 kW rear motors, which together produce 585 horsepower and 740 Nm. The EV6 GT has a peak speed of 260 km/h and can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in under 3.5 seconds.
