The UAE’s highest civilian honor, the Order of Zayed or Order of the Union Medal, was given to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa for his considerable efforts in advancing bilateral ties between the two nations.
COAS General Bajwa received the honor from UAE President Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan at a ceremony in Abu Dhabi.
At a ceremony in Abu Dhabi, UAE President Mohammad bin Zayed presented Pakistani Chief of Army Staff Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa with the “Order of Zayed,” the highest civil award in his nation.
Other notable global and GCC leaders who have won the prized honor include German Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Xi Jinping of China, former US President George Bush, and King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia.
The Award was last given to Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman in December 2021.
In an earlier meeting between Sheikh Zayed and the army’s senior brass, topics of mutual interest, bilateral defence and security cooperation, and the regional security situation were covered.
The two presidents concurred that Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates have a long history of friendly ties and a firmly ingrained sense of brotherhood, which is evolving into a long-lasting alliance.
