China has suggested to Pakistan the establishment of an RMB Capital Circulation System to increase Chinese currency commerce and transactions.
It was proposed that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) undertake negotiations with the Bank of China in this respect. The administration has urged the finance ministry and the central bank to look into the Chinese authorities’ request and take action. Significant progress is likely to be achieved shortly, and formal negotiations between the two countries on this matter will begin.
Companies were not permitted to hold their own foreign money, according to a letter written to the government by the Bank of China’s Karachi office, and foreign exchange, as well as foreign direct investment, was meant to be changed into the rupee within three days.
According to the papers, a pilot project including the implementation of ‘RMB pricing’ should be implemented in the first phase to promote trading in the Chinese currency. The second phase should concentrate on RMB settlement and financing rules.
According to the papers, the exchange rate between the two nations’ currencies shall be fixed through the China Foreign Exchange Trading System (CFETS) and approved institutions designated as cross-border currency markets in China and Pakistan.
It recommended the Pakistani government to enable unrestricted currency exchange between Pakistani and Chinese currencies, as well as the RMB Capital Circulation System, to ease cross-border currency movements in the current account.
According to the paper, both Pakistani and Chinese investors would be allowed to invest in both nations using the same exchange rate system for the Pakistani Rupee and the Chinese Yuan.
