The Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) has received a one-billion-rupee grant from the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications to host various skill development training programs around the country through boot camps and batches.
These projects are expected to begin this year, beginning in the country’s biggest cities. According to a PSEB spokesperson, professionals and graduate students are free to enroll in the boot camps and batches.
These programmes will be tailored to IT graduates and professionals in particular, with the goal of increasing participants’ capacity in high-demand domains of the local IT business as well as numerous soft skills.
The boot camps will last 4 to 5 months, depending on the subject matter, and will supply human resources to the local industry, which is currently experiencing a skilled workforce crisis.
PSEB is collaborating with a variety of partners on curriculum development, hands-on training sessions, and the availability of industry trainers and support staff. For these boot camps, the board will also recruit several experienced individuals from local and international IT organisations as trainers.
These workshops will be put on in partnership with a variety of IT and software firms. In this regard, the board is seeking participation from interested IT businesses with experience in professional and graduate training and capacity building.
According to estimates, more than 25,000 IT graduates are graduated each year from Pakistan’s numerous colleges, but only 5,000 of these graduates are hired by local industry based on market demand, while the rest of the students with obsolete skills struggle to find high-paying positions.
The establishment of these boot camps will update the abilities of these graduates in accordance with the needs of the local IT industry, and job markets as well as company demand will be addressed as a result—a win-win situation for both graduates and corporations.
Pakistan’s IT business has been on the rise for the past two years, thanks to new automation, BPO, and e-commerce prospects in both the local and worldwide markets.
In recent years, the industry’s exports have reached an all-time high, with a larger scope expected in the near future. To increase the volume of Pakistan’s exports, the country needs to create trained people resources on a long-term basis.
