Samsung has introduced the world’s first 5G modem for cars, which will soon catch up to smartphones. Automobiles will now be able to download at up to 5.1 Gbps thanks to this advancement.
This modem is known as the Exynos Auto T5123, and it is intended exclusively for automobiles. This has been a stumbling block in recent months, as automobiles cannot use the same processors as other gadgets due to differences in durability and lifetime requirements.
The T5123 is more than just a 5G modem; it also features a pair of Cortex A55 CPU cores that can give navigational satellite location data. It’s a single chip that can do two things at once, which makes it easier to design.
The T5123 is compatible with the recently revealed Exynos Auto V7 chipset, which may operate as the brains of an automobile’s system. It can be used with up to 32GB of LPDDR4x RAM and an 11-core Mali G76 GPU. Its processor includes eight 1.5 GHz Cortex-A76 CPU cores.
The chipset supports up to four displays, allowing rear-seat passengers to be serviced as well. The onboard NPU for AI operations can recognize speech, face, and gestures, making it simple to employ voice and gesture instructions in cars.
Up to 12 cameras can be supported, allowing for surround view and parking assistance.
Samsung has also unveiled a power management IC, which is the third and final chip. It features built-in safety for under/over voltage, short circuits, over current, thermal shutdown, and more, and is designed to work with the Auto V7 SoC.
All of these chips are currently in mass production and will be used to power the next generation of automobiles.
