A recent poll found that 97% of Saudi Internet users take rigorous efforts to ensure the security of their home connections, suggesting that Internet users in the country are growing more aware of cyber threats.
Ninety-one percent of respondents to a survey by the multinational technology corporation Cisco considered broadband to be an essential piece of national infrastructure, and sixty-eight percent of those polled stated they use their home internet to conduct business.
Over 21,000 participants from 12 different nations participated in Cisco’s Broadband Survey, and among them were 2,000 residents of the Kingdom.
According to Salman Faqeeh, managing director at Cisco Saudi Arabia, “our survey has confirmed that consumers in Saudi Arabia are increasingly prioritizing cybersecurity when using their broadband service,” confirming the findings of a previous study showing that 73% of consumers in the Kingdom worry about cybercriminals hacking their devices.
Saudi people are taking extreme measures
In light of the proliferation of hybrid work patterns and the increasing sophistication of cyberattacks, he argued that it is more crucial than ever to employ advanced measures of defense such as multi-factor authentication.
Fifty-two percent of Saudi Arabian respondents to a survey indicated they use passwords to protect their home networks and devices, making them the most preferred method for warding against cyber threats.
When asked how they protect their home network from outside threats, 28% of respondents in the Kingdom stated they use the firewall features of their router. While speed is still highly valued, the survey found that up to 38% of respondents placed a premium on security when deciding on a broadband provider.
In addition, almost 76% of customers in the Kingdom have reported feeling safer while using cloud services.
There has been a rise in the number of cybersecurity organizations in Saudi Arabia looking to register for commercial purposes, according to a summary report published earlier this month by the Ministry of Commerce.
There were 1,462 registered cybersecurity companies in Saudi Arabia in the second quarter of 2022, but by the second quarter of 2023, that number had increased by 52 percent to 2,229.
