The decision to close textile factories nationwide was made by the All-Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA). According to the Textile Association, 1600 textile factories have shut down, resulting in the loss of 5 million jobs.
The primary cause of the mill closures is that Pakistan’s government chose to reverse the electricity tariffs for industries, therefore as a form of protest, they decided to close all of the country’s textile mills.
“Starting on Saturday, the nation’s textile mills will also be shut down. The APTMA said that 1,600 textile factories had already been shut down.
The collapse of the textile sector will touch 30 million people and result in the loss of 5 million employees, it continued.
“Increasing exports is crucial and the only way to save the nation’s economy. The government is required to offer the textile sector competitively priced gas and electricity. Additionally, it should guarantee the textile industry’s constant access to gas and electricity, it said.
