A small explosion happened in Yellowstone Park. It was on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed it. It happened at Biscuit Basin. The explosion was near Black Diamond Pool. It was around 10 a.m. People saw it near Old Faithful. Geologists are checking it out.
Visitors took videos of the explosion. They were very close to it. There was damage to the boardwalk. No one got hurt. For safety, Biscuit Basin is now closed. This includes the parking lot and boardwalks. They will stay closed until it is safe. The Grand Loop road is still open.

USGS and Yellowstone Park staff will keep checking the area. They will open it again when it is safe. Monitoring data shows no changes in the region. The explosion is not linked to volcanic activity. Yellowstone’s volcanic system is at normal levels.
Hydrothermal explosions are not signs of volcanoes erupting. Magma did not cause this explosion. It was just a small blast. The park is still safe to visit.
