Direct to Cell Beta Testing Phase
Elon Musk announced that SpaceX would start beta testing Starlink Direct to Cell service on 27 January 2025. This service will allow direct communication between smartphones and satellites enabling simplified messaging and basic internet connectivity without a traditional cellular network. In the future it could also support voice and messaging features on X Twitter.

Through this technology iPhone and Android users can connect directly to satellites without additional hardware such as special antennas or dishes.
