As of Windows 11, Microsoft has discontinued support for the Cortana app. The digital assistant Cortana has been disabled in a recent upgrade. It has been three years since Microsoft discontinued support for the iOS and Android versions of its Cortana virtual assistant.
On Windows 11 machines, launching Cortana will result in a message informing you that the programme is no longer supported and providing a link to an article explaining the decision.
On the autumn of 2023, Microsoft plans to end support for Cortana on the mobile version of Teams, as well as Microsoft Teams Display and Microsoft Teams Rooms. Microsoft just made the interesting announcement that Cortana will continue to function within the mobile version of Outlook.
Cortana is window’s VA
The history of Cortana begins with its use as a virtual assistant on Microsoft’s Windows Phone. with 2015, Microsoft included this helper with Windows 10. It responded to voice requests, made reminders, and launched programmes; it was a seamless addition to the Windows 10 taskbar.
Although Microsoft kept Cortana as an independent software until very recently, it was initially included into the Windows 11 taskbar and first boot configuration.
Cortana was reworked extensively for both iOS and Android, but it still couldn’t compete with services like Alexa and Google Assistant. In 2019, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella admitted that the ups and downs of Cortana’s history were inextricably linked to those of Windows Phone. He conceded that Cortana had slipped behind the competition.
Microsoft is currently working on “Windows Copilot,” a novel sidebar feature exclusive to Windows 11. This new helper will utilise Bing Chat’s features to accomplish tasks like controlling Windows settings and answering questions. An update to Windows 11 is planned for later this year, and it will include Windows Copilot as well as native support for the RAR and 7-Zip archive formats.
