Two novel sub-variants of the Coronavirus Omicron strain have been discovered in Pakistan. B.4 and B.5 are the sub-variants that have been identified.
B.4 and B.5 were discovered in South Africa for the first time in January and February of this year, respectively. They’re both more contagious than BA.2, an Omicron sub-variant known as “stealth Omicron.”
According to a study, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) discovered the two sub-variants by sequencing the genomes of several samples.
B.4 and B.5 are less lethal than prior Omicron sub-variants, although being extremely contagious. Furthermore, these two sub-variants are highly resistant to all available Coronavirus vaccinations.
On the other side, the country is once again seeing an increase in Coronavirus infections. Pakistan discovered 171 instances of COVID-19 earlier today. On Sunday, 152 instances of the virus were discovered across the country.
In all, Pakistan has reported about 1.53 million cases of Coronavirus. Over 30,000 people have died as a result of the COVID-19 virus, while 1.49 million have recovered completely.
Pakistan has been reporting less than 100 cases per day since April 27 of this year. On Monday, only 64 instances were recorded.
According to government estimates, 1,527,954 confirmed cases have been registered so far, with 30,369 individuals dying as a result of the infection.
Pakistan has given out a total of 246,442,655 vaccine doses, bringing the total number of people who have been properly vaccinated to well over 120 million.
