The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has stated that it has no involvement in smartphone taxes, as the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is the organization that proposes, approves, and collects taxes from smartphone users.
PTA clarified that the government increased the taxes and that the FBR collects them, and that PTA has nothing to do with smartphone taxes.
PTA further stated that it is providing its Device Identification and Registration Database System (DIRBS) for mobile device registration to the general public for free, and that all tax received from smartphone registration goes to the FBR.
In the aftermath of the recent increase in duties on the registration of cellular mobile devices and handsets, PTA made this announcement while addressing myths about PTA taxes.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) applies and collects the taxes and fees charged on registration, according to PTA, while PTA merely provides technical support in the form of DIRBS, through which applicants can register their mobile devices for use within Pakistan.
FBR applies the taxes and duties collected during the transaction, and they are promptly deposited with FBR.
It is important to remember that an applicant can go to the FBR page to find out about the current taxes and charges that apply to the registration of various devices.
