According to insiders, both Jazz and Telenor have described the MTR modification as a significant step that will result in off-net aggression/price war, decreasing already low rates while also negatively impacting revenues and profitability.
Smaller operators like as PTCL, Zong, Ufone, and Wateen, on the other hand, have backed PTA’s decision, claiming that it will maintain a level playing field for all while safeguarding the business interests of smaller carriers.
Those in favor argue that the change will bring the industry closer to a competitive stage, in which all operators will compete for customers by improving the quality of their service rather than simply increasing their user base. In case you’re wondering, MTR is a price set by the regulator (PTA) that receiving operators charge for an off-net call, and this rate is imposed across the industry.
