If some new photographs released on Twitter are to be believed, Sony may be about to debut a tweaked version of its new LinkBuds True Wi-Fi Earbuds.
On April 21, illustrations or photographs from the leaker account SnoopyTech on Twitter supposedly reveal a new Sony LinkBuds variant dubbed the Sony LinkBuds S.
According to the images, the new genuine wi-fi model replaces the breach in the core of the earbuds with a spherical vent located near to the ear canal that allows sound to travel through.
Overall, they look a lot like Sony’s other mainstay accurate wireless earbuds, the Sony WF-1000XM4, but the vent could allow for far better ambient awareness – keeping true to Sony’s LinkBuds concept – without having to work with an open hole that can’t be blocked.
That could solve some of the LinkBuds’ biggest problems in a variety of ways.
The Sony LinkBuds were polarising in the audio world when they were released a few months ago. Some saw genuine potential in the open-ear design, which let you to keep track on what was going on all around you – especially if you work from home with little children. Others, on the other hand, felt uneasy and that there was a lack of bass.
When you use a vent instead of an open hole, the LinkBuds can close down the vent when you don’t need ambient recognition – improving bass response in the process – and unplug the vent when you want to let the outside world in.
They’ll be a little more comfortable than the LinkBuds, and they’ll remain in the ears a little longer for certain people, thanks to their similar design and style to the Sony WF-1000XM4.
Unfortunately, there is no word on price or a release date for these items – we’re still waiting for Sony to publicly confirm or deny their existence – although Sony normally announces new audio products in May and June.
