Sindh Introduces Strict Traffic Fines Up to Rs100k

The Sindh government has brought forward new traffic penalties with fines reaching up to Rs. 100,000. The revised traffic system targets key violations such as speeding, reckless driving, driving without a license, wrong-way driving, and illegal parking. Officials explained that these measures are necessary to reduce traffic accidents and build safer roads across the province, ensuring accountability for all categories of road users.

Background of the Decision

This decision comes after a steady rise in road accidents and repeated traffic violations in recent years. Officials noted that reckless behavior by drivers had created dangerous road conditions. The provincial government believes that strong deterrence is needed to make drivers more responsible. DIG Traffic confirmed that the fines will be applied without discrimination, ensuring fairness and uniformity in the enforcement process across Sindh.

Sindh Traffic Fines Chart

Violation Motorcycle Car/Jeep Public Service / Light Transport Heavy Vehicles
Speeding Rs. 5,000 Rs. 10,000 Rs. 15,000 Rs. 20,000
Driving Without a License Rs. 10,000 Rs. 20,000 Rs. 25,000 Rs. 30,000
Reckless / Negligent Driving Rs. 15,000 Rs. 25,000 Rs. 50,000 Rs. 50,000
Wrong-Way Driving (One-Way Violation) Rs. 25,000 Rs. 30,000 Rs. 50,000 Rs. 100,000
Driving on the Wrong Side of the Road Rs. 5,000 Rs. 10,000 Rs. 15,000 Rs. 20,000
Illegal Parking (Sidewalk, Zebra Crossing, Hydrant/Intersection) Rs. 2,000 Rs. 10,000 Rs. 15,000 Rs. 20,000

Heavy Fines for Speeding

Under the new rules, speeding fines have increased for all vehicle categories. Motorcyclists will face a Rs. 5,000 fine, while car and jeep drivers must pay Rs. 10,000. Public service and light transport vehicles will be fined Rs. 15,000, whereas heavy vehicles will face Rs. 20,000. Officials stressed that speeding is one of the major causes of deadly accidents, and higher penalties will help control this violation effectively.

Driving Without a License

The new penalty system also focuses on drivers without licenses. For motorcycles, the fine has been set at Rs. 10,000. Car and jeep drivers will pay Rs. 20,000, while public transport and light commercial drivers will pay Rs. 25,000. Heavy vehicle operators face Rs. 30,000 fines. The government aims to ensure that only trained, licensed drivers are on the road, improving safety for everyone.

Reckless and Negligent Driving

Reckless driving has been identified as one of the most dangerous violations. The new fines stand at Rs. 15,000 for motorcycles, Rs. 25,000 for cars and jeeps, and a massive Rs. 50,000 for public transport and heavy vehicles. The authorities believe that strict action against careless drivers will prevent many road mishaps, especially those involving buses, trucks, and passenger vans.

Wrong-Way Driving

The strictest fines are set for wrong-way driving on one-way routes. Motorcyclists face Rs. 25,000 fines, car and jeep drivers Rs. 30,000, public transport Rs. 50,000, and heavy vehicles Rs. 100,000. Authorities explained that wrong-way driving often leads to head-on collisions and puts multiple lives at risk, which is why this violation carries the heaviest financial punishment under the new system.

Illegal Parking Violations

Parking violations have also been addressed in the new rules. Motorcyclists who park wrongly will be fined Rs. 2,000. Car and jeep drivers face Rs. 10,000, public transport vehicles Rs. 15,000, and heavy vehicles Rs. 20,000. Parking on sidewalks, zebra crossings, near hydrants, and intersections causes major traffic jams and blocks emergency services, making strict penalties necessary.

Introduction of Demerit Points

In addition to fines, the government has introduced a demerit points system. Certain violations will result in negative points being added to the driver’s record. Accumulated points can affect license validity and may even lead to suspension. Officials clarified that this system is not about revenue collection but aims to encourage discipline and long-term accountability among drivers.

Purpose of the New Rules

Officials have clearly stated that the purpose of these strict fines is not to generate money but to reduce traffic accidents. The Sindh government is determined to promote road safety and discipline through these new measures. By creating strong deterrents, they aim to make drivers think twice before breaking rules, leading to safer travel for all road users.
