Netflix is adding spatial audio support to a number of its hit original shows, including Red Notice, The Witcher, The Adam Project, and the latest season of Stranger Things, in collaboration with Sennheiser.
The upcoming live-action Resident Evil series, which will premiere on July 14, will also feature spatial audio.
On the rollout, the streaming video behemoth will collaborate with German audio specialist Sennheiser, which will use its AMBEO technology to convert standard stereo audio into an immersive surround sound-like experience. According to reports, Netflix is the first streaming platform to use the technology.
The goal is to create a more immersive experience that immerses the viewer further in the story. Sound subtlety can often go unnoticed, especially if you rely on a basic two-channel stereo system or integrated TV speakers.
“Netflix spatial audio helps to translate the cinematic experience of immersive audio to any stereo,” the company noted.

According to Netflix, the technology is compatible with all devices, which means it does not require dedicated surround sound speakers or expensive home theatre equipment. Furthermore, it is available across all membership tiers and is automatically enabled with no user intervention required.
