According to a recent story from the Korean media outlet THE ELEC, the rumoured Samsung Galaxy Ring could be arriving soon. As soon as next month, a decision might be made on whether to begin mass manufacturing.
The tech giant appears to be actively working with domestic and international part manufacturers to bring the Galaxy Ring to life at this time, while it is still in the early phases of development.
Although Samsung has not yet decided whether to mass-produce the Galaxy Ring, industry rumours indicate that it will at the very least decide by the end of August.
Production of Samsung Galaxy Smart Ring
The preliminary development review findings, according to THE ELEC’s report, will be communicated to Roh Tae-moon, president and head of Mobile experience at Samsung. The process of creating the Galaxy Ring can begin once the business decides to move forward with mass manufacturing.
Even if Samsung decides to create the Galaxy Ring in large quantities, it could not be available right now. The Galaxy Ring might need medical device approval following the product development stage, just like the Galaxy Watch.
Normally, the product development phase of this approval procedure takes 7 to 8 months, and the medical device approval phase takes an additional 10 to 12 months. Therefore, it is anticipated that the Galaxy Ring will be available sometime in 2025.
As an alternative, Samsung might classify the Galaxy Ring as a conventional wellness product, avoiding the need for medical device certification, and delivering it as early as next year.
The Galaxy Ring has the ability to provide more accurate body measurements than the Galaxy Watch. The tight fit on the finger may reduce mistakes brought on by loose wear.
However, information accuracy may be significantly lowered due to weaker blood flow in the finger than in the wrist, or blood flow measurements may be inaccurate if the ring is excessively tight.
However, if the Galaxy Ring’s features are on par with those of the Galaxy Watch, it may be able to compete for some of the Galaxy Watch market share.
It’s intriguing to note that Samsung seems to be preparing not just to enter the smart ring market and challenge the market leader Oura, but also to investigate the possibility of creating a Galaxy Ring that works with AR/VR devices.
Vision Pro, an AR/VR device just unveiled by Apple, employs cameras and sensors to follow the user’s head and hand motions without the requirement of a dedicated controller.
According to rumours, Samsung is developing a comparable technology for its smart ring and has submitted a patent application to do so.
