Samsung DeX transforms Galaxy phones and tablets into desktop PCs. It is supported by a number of flagship phones from the last five years, with one notable exception – the Flip series.
Samsung Galaxy Z with DeX support
According to SamMobile, this is about to change, as the upcoming Z Flip5 will finally support DeX, making it the smallest device to do so.
The source does not provide any information about the feature or whether older clamshell foldables will receive it via software update.
We can assume that it will work in the same way that DeX does now: with a compatible HDMI cable or wirelessly with Miracast-enabled TVs and monitors. On a PC, all you need is a USB cable if your operating system is Windows 10 or Windows 11.
Another question is whether the Dex Pad and Dex Station are compatible. While the current and likely future Flip phones can physically plug into the USB-C port of the accessories, they still require software support.
Still, the ability to use the Z Flip on a larger screen for productivity apps would be another way to make the foldable more appealing to a wider audience.
