Last year, Samsung debuted a 10x 10MP periscope camera on the Galaxy S21 Ultra, providing a significant image quality boost for long-range zoom. The company intends to keep this camera for the Galaxy S22 Ultra while upgrading the software.
According to Galaxy Club, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will also have a 10MP 10x periscope camera. The outlet speculated that even if Samsung uses the same 10x camera, it could improve image quality in other ways.
This is correct, as the Korean manufacturer could theoretically improve image processing, provide a higher quality lens/lens coating, or use a wider aperture to produce better images.
Nonetheless, in his Galaxy S22 Ultra review, former reviewer Eric Zeman thought the 10x periscope camera delivered good results.
And when I got my hands on the phone earlier this year, I was quite pleased with the 10x shots and videos. So, we’re excited to see what Samsung can come up with for the next Ultra phone.
The Galaxy Club was unable to confirm whether the S23 Ultra would include a second zoom camera like the previous two Ultra phones. The 3x camera, on the other hand, is likely to return, allowing for higher quality images at short or intermediate zoom ranges. In any case, Huawei and Samsung are currently the only companies offering 10x periscope cameras, so we hope more companies follow suit.
