Porsche marked the 30th anniversary of the renowned Goodwood Festival of Speed in spectacular fashion by unveiling the impressive Porsche Vision 357 Speedster.
Porsche Vision 357 Speedster
This cutting-edge concept car is a companion model to the closed Porsche Vision 357, which was introduced to commemorate the esteemed sports car manufacturer’s own anniversary year.
In terms of design, the all-electric Porsche Vision 357 Speedster pays homage to the classic 356 while drawing technological inspiration from the 718 GT4 e-Performance.
At the Duke of Richmond’s estate in West Sussex, Porsche displayed over 15 new and vintage models, making it an unforgettable event.
The iconic 356 No. 1 Roadster, the brand’s very first sports car, was among the highlights. Motorsport enthusiasts were also treated to the sight of six Le Mans winners on display.
The Vision 357 Speedster is based on the technology of the Porsche 718 GT4 e-Performance, incorporating Mission R electric motors and battery technology, as well as the 718 GT4 Clubsport chassis.
This innovative design study will be showcased at this year’s Rennsport Reunion in the United States at the end of September, following its global debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
- Motorsport-inspired Color Scheme:
The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster features a captivating two-color concept inspired by its historic racing forefathers. The Marble Grey and Grivelo Grey Metallic color scheme pays homage to classic motorsport elements.
The darker Metallic shade, for example, is used on the front fenders, which are designed to protect against debris during intense race scenarios.
Furthermore, the front wings have the distinctive Metallic color. The front wheels are elegantly painted in Grivelo Grey Metallic to continue the harmonious color scheme.
Miami Blue accents are skillfully incorporated to add vibrant contrasts, most notably on the quick-release mechanisms adorning the wrap-around front bonnet. The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster’s meticulous color palette bridges the gap between the past and the present, embodying the spirit of both heritage and innovation.
- Exterior Design: Porsche Vision 357 Speedster
The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster’s exterior design features several distinctive and eye-catching elements. The car features a squat and shortened front windscreen, which emphasizes its solid and imposing body.
A one-sided tonneau cover, reminiscent of classic open-top sports cars, extends elegantly on the right side of the vehicle.
A carbon roll-over element behind the driver’s seat adds a touch of technical sophistication, giving the impression that the driver’s headrest is suspended in mid-air.
The charge port door and the anchor for the traditional speedster top are located further back, preserving the car’s nostalgic charm.
The anniversary logo, which includes the numbers “75” as well as the years “1948” and “2023,” is done in Grivelo Grey Metallic and Miami Blue.
These new colors offer a lively alternative to the coupe version of the Vision 357, which featured red as an additional color.
Furthermore, the rear wheels feature comic-style unicorns created specifically for this concept car by Porsche’s talented designers.
The large “Speedster” logo adds to the car’s personality. Notably, traditional exterior mirrors have been replaced by cameras, which have been placed further forward on the fenders in a wing-like configuration to improve aerodynamics.
The Vision 357 Speedster incorporates several design elements from its sister concept car. The front has a four-point light signet with a round design, similar to the iconic Porsche 356.
The taillights are hidden behind a patterned array of milled points on the body. A vertical grille pattern also pays homage to the original Porsche model line, while the grille itself seamlessly integrates the third brake light.
The car’s wide track gives it a robust and confident stance, which contributes to improved driving stability. The 20-inch magnesium wheels feature carbon fiber hubcaps and central locks, and are visually reminiscent of the renowned Porsche 356 A and 356 B models, which featured rims with a 205-millimeter-diameter large bolt circle.
- A Sleek and Streamlined Interior for Pure Driving Pleasure
The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster’s interior takes a minimalist approach, focusing on essential elements tailored to the driver’s needs. The cockpit is thoughtfully designed with a minimal aesthetic, exuding a classic sporty feel.
The driver sits in a low-slung seat, which complements the car’s performance-oriented nature perfectly. The seat has a CFRP (carbon fiber-reinforced polymer) shell that integrates seamlessly into the monocoque. A six-point seat belt with a Miami Blue belt strap secures the driver in place, ensuring maximum safety.
The instrument cluster is a transparent surface atop the steering column that provides essential information without distracting from the driving experience.
The racing steering wheel is light and airy, and the impact absorber appears suspended, adding to the overall visual appeal.
The individual controls tastefully incorporate the exterior accent color, Miami Blue, while maintaining a cohesive design language throughout the vehicle.
The entire dashboard is finished in a sophisticated carbon-weave pattern, adding a touch of class to the interior. Miami Blue straps in the upper right section provide a secure solution for storing accessories as an innovative alternative to a traditional glove compartment.
Simple fabric straps are used instead of traditional door handles, drawing inspiration from the racing environment.
This lightweight design detail not only improves the overall aesthetics but also helps to reduce weight, which improves the vehicle’s performance characteristics.
