The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has officially fixed tuition fees for private medical and dental colleges across Pakistan. The decision aims to control excessive fee hikes and ensure that medical education remains affordable and transparent for students and their families.
Fee Fix for 2024-25 and 2025-26 Sessions
For the 2024–25 academic session, the annual tuition fee for MBBS and BDS programmes is fixed at PKR 1.8 million. For the 2025–26 session, PMDC has allowed a 5% increase, bringing the maximum fee to PKR 1.89 million per year. Future increases will be linked to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation.
Departments and Colleges Must Comply
All private medical and dental colleges are required to display the approved fee structure publicly. PMDC has warned that any institution charging fees above the fixed amount may face disciplinary action, including legal consequences under the PMDC Act.
Reason Behind Fee Fixation
The decision follows complaints from students and parents about very high fees charged by some private colleges, with reports of annual fees exceeding PKR 2–3 million. The fee fix is intended to standardize costs and protect students from financial exploitation.
Enforcement Challenges
Despite the official fee fix, some colleges reportedly charge extra for ancillary services such as registration, lab, or security fees. PMDC has emphasized the need for strict enforcement to ensure compliance and prevent overcharging.
Impact on Students and Families
The tuition fee fix provides financial relief to students and families planning to enroll in private medical and dental colleges. By regulating fees, PMDC aims to make medical education more accessible, maintain transparency, and ensure fairness in the private education sector.
