Another change has occurred in Pakistani cricket in advance of the ODI World Cup. Prior to the Asia Cup, the team will play a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.
Inzamam-ul-Haq, a former captain, has been named the team’s chief selector, which is a significant decision given how close the mega event in India is.
Before the major tournament, the team is scheduled to play a total of 8 or 9 ODIs. A new head selector has been named by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) with less than two months until the World Cup.
The choice was made one day after the Pakistani government announced the Men in Green would travel to India for the 50-over World Cup in October-November.
Inzamam will hold this post for the second time; from 2016 until 2019, he served as the team’s top selector. Notably, he was responsible for selecting the World Cup team in 2019 as well, and he will have the same responsibilities this time around.
It’s interesting to note that Pakistan last won an ICC trophy, the Champions Trophy in 2017, defeating India in the final, during Inzamam’s stint as top selector. Inzamam-ul-Haq will take over for Haroon Rashid, who vacated the position last month.
The roster for the Afghanistan ODIs, followed by the Asia Cup and the World Cup, will be chosen by Inzamam as his first task in his new role as chief selector.
