Train fares in Pakistan Railways have dropped significantly, benefiting all passengers.
Pakistan Railways announced a major decrease in train fares across different classes because of the recent drop in diesel prices. The official notification about the fare reduction is out and effective now.
The prices are less for trips from 1 to 200 kilometers. This helps people who travel shorter distances. The most cuts are for economy and AC classes.
Railway authorities have reduced fares for the economy class on some routes by as much as 54%.
For instance, the minimum fare for the economy class from Lahore to Rawalpindi has gone down from Rs250 to Rs100.
Similarly, the Khyber Mail in the economy class, covering distances from 1km to 130km, has also seen a reduction from Rs250 to Rs100.
Passengers who travel in AC class will also see a significant reduction, with fares cut by 40% on various routes.
This move is a relief for people who travel every day and for those who travel sometimes, who will save money on train travel.
The Railways Department says this fare reduction is to give the benefits of lower fuel costs to the public and make train travel cheaper.
The new fares started on Tuesday, railway authorities in Lahore confirmed.
Passengers should check the official Railways website for more detailed information about the fare reductions and to plan their trip.
