Oil and Gas Development Company Limited OGDCL Pakistan’s largest oil and gas exploration and production company has announced a significant oil and gas discovery in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The discovery was made at the Baragzai X01 Slant exploratory well in the Nashpa Block District Kohat. The company shared this information in a formal notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange PSX.
What the Discovery Shows
During testing of the Baragzai X01 well the results showed strong oil and gas flows. The well produced about 3100 barrels of oil per day and 8.15 million cubic feet of gas per day. These figures came from a special test called a Cased Hole Drill Stem Test. The discovery reflects positive results from deep underground rock formations.
Location and Geological Details
The company drilled the well to a depth of around 5170 meters to reach several rock layers that might contain hydrocarbons. This included formations known as Samana Suk and Shinawari which are known to be good reservoirs for oil and gas. Earlier tests in other formations like Kingriali and Datta also showed oil and gas strengthening the exploration results.
Who Is Involved in the Project
OGDCL is the operator of the Nashpa Block and has a 65% working interest in the project. The joint venture partners include Pakistan Petroleum Limited PPL with 30% interest and Government Holdings Private Limited GHPL with 5% interest. This partnership means all three companies share the risks and benefits of the find.
Why This Discovery Matters
This oil and gas find is important because it will help increase Pakistan’s domestic energy resources. Using more locally produced oil and gas can help reduce the need to import energy and improve overall energy security. OGDCL says that this discovery will also add to the hydrocarbon reserves of the company its partners and the country.
Next Steps After the Discovery
OGDCL plans to continue its evaluation and further testing to better understand how much oil and gas is available and how quickly it can be produced. The company aims to move the discovery toward commercial production so it can start contributing to Pakistan’s energy needs.
