Quetta: Authorities have officially announced that mobile internet services across Balochistan will be suspended starting this evening. The suspension will continue until 9 pm on Saturday, September 6. The decision comes ahead of the twin occasions of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) and Defense Day, where large gatherings and events are expected. Authorities say the suspension is a precautionary step to ensure law and order.
Official Communication Sent to the Federal Government
The Balochistan Home Department has taken responsibility for this decision. An official letter was forwarded to the federal government, formally requesting the suspension of services. According to the letter, mobile internet will remain suspended from 6 pm today until 9 pm tomorrow. This order emphasizes that the measure is necessary to maintain stability during religious and national events in the province.
Broadband and Wi-Fi Remain Functional
It is important to highlight that this restriction only applies to mobile data services, meaning that broadband and Wi-Fi connections will remain operational. Citizens using home Wi-Fi or workplace broadband services will continue to have internet access. However, mobile phone users who rely on mobile data for communication, social media, and online transactions will experience disruptions throughout the suspension period.
Security Concerns Behind the Decision
Officials have clarified that this measure is based solely on security concerns. With large public gatherings expected during Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) celebrations and Defense Day events, the risk of untoward incidents increases. Mobile internet blackouts are often enforced during sensitive occasions to prevent misuse of communication platforms for the coordination of unlawful activities. Authorities consider this decision a necessary step to safeguard citizens and maintain peace.

Previous Internet Suspensions in Balochistan
This is not the first time Balochistan has faced internet restrictions. Mobile data services in several districts were suspended earlier on August 6, citing political instability and heightened security threats. The suspension created difficulties for locals, particularly students, traders, and professionals. Services were later restored after the Balochistan High Court intervened. Despite that, restrictions returned late last month, once again frustrating mobile users.
Citizens Express Frustration Over Blackouts
Frequent internet blackouts have sparked frustration among Balochistan’s residents. Students complain about disruptions to online classes and research, while small business owners and freelancers lose clients due to unreliable connectivity. Many users depend heavily on mobile data since Wi-Fi is not widely available in all regions. Repeated suspensions raise concerns about digital access, economic impact, and citizens’ right to seamless communication during critical days.
Authorities Defend the Precautionary Measure
Despite public frustration, officials strongly defend the decision as an unavoidable precaution. Security agencies believe temporary sacrifices in communication are necessary to prevent potential unrest. They argue that safeguarding lives is more important than convenience, particularly on days when crowds gather in large numbers. The Home Department assured the public that services would be restored on time and that the measure is temporary.
