Introduction
A better display. Cameras that are better. A faster processor. This is the brand-new iPhone. A phone that is frequently chastised for being behind the times in some ways, but is frequently imitated.
A polarizing device that sets trends in multiple ways. The iPhone 14 Pro is as contentious as any previous high-profile iPhone, if not more so.
The iPhone 14 Pro follows Apple’s formula to the letter, with an even brighter Super Retina XDR OLED with Always On and a smaller pill-shaped cutout.
Apple has once again turned a weakness into a strength. The infamous notch is now the Dynamic Island, a unique feature that other brands are considering replicating.
Other enhancements to the cameras include new sensors, lenses, and an ISP. And, as expected, Apple’s A16 Bionic chipset is faster and more energy-efficient than the A15.
Display
Let us begin with the screen. While it is still a 6.1-inch OLED, it has a smaller pill-shaped cutout, can reach 2,000nits of brightness, and supports Always On thanks to a newer, more energy-efficient panel.
The cutout is arguably the most iconic feature of the iPhone 14 Pro series, which consists of two small cutouts, one pill-shaped and one round. Apple has turned this into a feature called Dynamic Island, which includes various cool animations for notifications.
Camera
The rear camera remains a triple-camera setup with a LiDAR scanner, but the main shooter now has a 48MP sensor with second-generation sensor-shift stabilization and a 2x lossless zoom option.
The 12MP ultrawide camera now has a larger sensor and a better lens. The front camera now has a brighter lens, autofocus, and even optical stabilization. There is also a new 9-LED flash and a better image processing engine called Photonic Engine.
Processor
The Apple A16 Bionic chipset has a faster processor and graphics, but it still has the same 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU architecture. It now supports LPDDR5 RAM and has a greater memory bandwidth. Of course, a new ISP and DSP are present.
Other features
Another new feature included in the new hardware is the Emergency SOS via satellite, which allows you to send a message to emergency services from anywhere in the world without the need for a SIM card or network coverage.
And, thanks to a slew of new sensors, the new iPhones now support Crash Detection and can automatically summon assistance if they detect a collision.
This is the first iPhone series to be released without a SIM slot in the United States, which means that Apple’s trial run for SIM slot retirement has officially begun.
Prepare for a smartphone world without SIM cards in a few years if the nano-SIM is successful, as it was with the nano-SIM.
The design hasn’t changed; it’s the same as on the iPhone 12 and 13 series, and it’s just as durable with Ceramic Shields and improved IP68 ingress protection. The battery and charging capabilities have not changed.
