Kia intends to capitalize on its EV development momentum by introducing a high-performance executive sedan. The EV, dubbed the ‘GT1,’ will most likely be positioned in the mid-size segment, succeeding the Stinger.
Kia about EV development
According to rumors, it will be an E-segment vehicle, competing directly with the Tesla Model S and Mercedes-Benz EQE.
The new eM platform and a 113.2-kilowatt-hour battery pack will be used in the EV. It will have a larger battery than the Mercedes-Benz EQS, Tesla Model S, and EV9, and will be capable of traveling 800 kilometers when fully charged.
The claim, which should be treated with caution because Hyundai and Kia have not confirmed anything, states that there will be several models based on powertrain output.
The range-topper is said to have 603 horsepower and will be available in single and dual-motor configurations. It would be most powerful production vehicle, outperforming the EV6 GT.
The innovative architecture developed by Hyundai-Kia will be used in more than just the GT1 project. Modularity appears to be greater than E-GMP.
It will continue to sell its current electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles until 2025, when the new ones will be available.
The Korean automaker does not intend to produce PHEVs for a long time, but high demand keeps them in production.
