According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Pakistan imported $1.946 billion worth of mobile phones in the first eleven months of 2021-22, up from $1.860 billion in the same period last year, a 4.62 percent rise, despite increased local manufacture.
Overall telecom imports into the country climbed by 11.15 percent in the study period (July-May 2021-22), rising from $2.337 billion in July-May 2020-21 to $2.597 billion in July-May 2021-22.
Mobile phone imports into Pakistan declined by 35.54 percent month over month in May 2022, remaining at $137.213 million, according to PBS data, compared to $212.881 million in April 2022.
Mobile phones saw a 21.82 percent negative growth year over year in May 2022, compared to $175.501 million in May 2021.
Overall telecom imports into the country declined by 33.50 percent month over month in May 2022, remaining at $183.985 million, compared to $276.652 million in April 2022.
Overall telecom imports decreased 16.60 percent year over year to $220.559 million in May 2021.
Imports of other apparatus climbed by 36.66 percent from July to May 2021-22 to $651.323 million, compared to $476.612 million from July to May 2020-21.
Other apparatus imports decreased by 26.66 percent month over month, remaining at $46.772 million in May 2022, compared to $63.772 million in April 2022, and increased by 3.71 percent when compared to $45.098 million in May 2022.
