Smart Car CEO Richard Yu revealed at the China EV 100 forum in Beijing that Huawei, Chery Automobile, BAIC Motor, and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group will develop and produce Aito-branded vehicles.
Yu also stated that, which collaborates with Seres Group to manufacture Aito vehicles, will launch SUVs, sedans, and multipurpose vehicles under the name. He also stated that the business intends to make use of the automakers’ production capacity.
Seres offered 80,000 Aito cars equipped with Huawei’s HarmonyOS system, an alternative to Android, in 2022.
He stated that the business hopes to increase production volume even more by collaborating with new automakers.
On Saturday, Yu stated that the sanctions have harmed Huawei’s partnerships with global automakers, and the company is working to re-establish strong working relationships with different automakers.
Chairman Eric Xu reiterated at a press conference on Friday that the company does not manufacture cars but rather assists other manufacturers in producing better vehicles.
Washington has imposed a slew of export controls on, claiming that it poses a security risk, which the company disputes.
The penalties have prevented from purchasing critical components and from using Google’s Android operating system.
According to Yu, the sanctions have also had an impact on the partnerships with global automakers, who have stopped using their car connectivity technologies in the last two years.
Meng was detained in Canada for three years due to alleged efforts to cover up attempts by Huawei-linked businesses to sell equipment to Iran in violation of US sanctions.
