Google Search, which has long been chastised for displaying an excessive number of SEO and AI-generated clickbait garbage, is finally going to address this issue.
Google has indicated that it will address the issue of algorithmically generated spam and take proactive actions to combat it.
Google revealed adjustments to its spam policy aimed at combating the entrance of AI-generated clickbait into its search results.
According to Lily Ray, managing director of SEO at marketing agency Amsiv: “It sounds like it’s going to be one of the biggest updates in the history of Google. It could change everything.”
Unoriginal Content
The policy changes are expected to lower “low-quality, unoriginal content” on Google search by up to 40%, according to the company’s blog post. The business is prioritising efforts to tackle what it calls “scaled content abuse.”
Google’s VP said
This phenomenon arises when criminal actors flood the internet with a large number of well produced articles and blog posts designed to abuse search engine algorithms.
Pandu Nayak, Google’s vice president of search, says, “A good example of it, which has been around for a little while, is the abuse of obituary spam.”
Obituary spam is a more severe type of spam in which malicious actors scrape and rebroadcast death notifications on platforms such as YouTube.
This problem has gotten significantly worse recently with the widespread use of generative AI, which makes it much easier for spammers to develop such content and distribute it everywhere.
However, Google’s updated spam regulations aim to address exactly this issue.
If properly implemented, these modifications are expected to help efforts to reduce the growth of this form of spam in internet searches.
