Following a threat by one of the main coalition partners, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, to block the approval of the budget for 2023–2024, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday approved Rs. 25 billion for Sindh’s flood victims.
The money for Sindh flood victims had been agreed by the prime minister, according to sources.
Recall that the prime minister met with a PPP delegation on Friday and gave them assurances about the availability of funds. Syed Naveed Qamar, Sherry Rehman, Syed Khurshid Shah, Qamaruzzaman Kaira, Syed Murad Ali Shah, and Nisar Khuro made up the delegation.
PPP Chairman Threatened PM on Approval of Flood Victims Grant
It’s interesting to note that the PPP leader threatened the premier, saying if money wasn’t set aside for the rehabilitation of the flood victims, he wouldn’t support the federal budget.
Bilawal criticized PM’s inability to keep his budgetary commitments during a rally held in Swat.
Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Minister Ahsan Iqbal responded to his statement by recommending that the issue be resolved in the cabinet to prevent the opening of a new front.
He claimed that Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh, approved the federal budget before it was presented to the National Assembly.
In the meanwhile, the conflict will be resolved at a meeting that the prime minister, Shehbaz, will preside over today (Monday).
