Pakistan Railways has completed important upgrades at two major stations in Punjab, Faisalabad and Gujranwala, under its modernization plan. Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi inaugurated the newly renovated Faisalabad Railway Station, while Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz led the reopening of Gujranwala’s 144-year-old station. These projects aim to combine progress with heritage, improving comfort while honoring the railway’s historic role.
Faisalabad Station Transformed for Passenger Comfort
Faisalabad Railway Station now features modern facilities designed to enhance the travel experience. During the inauguration, Minister Abbasi announced that the new waiting lounge can now seat more than 500 passengers. The station also includes improved ticket counters, digital display systems, and cleaner restrooms. He praised Faisalabad’s business community for supporting and financing the renovation, showing a strong public-private partnership in development.
Commitment to Reviving Pakistan Railways
Minister Hanif Abbasi reaffirmed the government’s resolve to revive Pakistan Railways with modern technology and efficient services. He revealed that Rawalpindi Railway Station will soon be inaugurated after similar upgrades. The goal is to improve major railway lines, enhance passenger comfort, and restore confidence in train travel as an affordable and reliable means of transportation across Pakistan.
Technology and Connectivity Enhancements Introduced
As part of the modernization effort, Pakistan Railways has introduced free Wi-Fi services at five key stations: Faisalabad, Lahore, Multan, Karachi, and Rawalpindi. These digital upgrades mark an important move toward making stations smarter and more connected. Once completed, these improvements will benefit both passenger and freight operations across the country.
Gujranwala’s Heritage Station Revived as Cultural Space
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the beautifully restored Gujranwala Railway Station, which has been renamed Adabi Bethak. The historic 144-year-old site now blends culture with comfort, featuring a Reading Corner and a modern cafeteria inspired by Lahore’s famous Pak Tea House. Revival of Heritage and Economic Growth
Experts believe these upgrades will not only modernize travel but also boost tourism and economic activity in Punjab.
