AB Handshake is a global corporation founded in 2020 with the goal of eradicating voice fraud in the telecom market and uniting operators from many nations together by providing an effective solution for preventing fraudulent calls.
The present fraud landscape needs a whole new strategy: coordination among operators protecting themselves in removing fraud on a global scale rather than just locally.
This is not an unusual attempt; in the 1970s, banks chose to use SWIFT as a universal tool to protect cash activities. This form of collective security has been proven to be effective, as it involves using a shared tool to check transactions between multiple entities.
The AB Handshake project in the telecoms industry takes a similar method. While the idea was simple, the key task is to build a solution that could handle all types of voice fraud while sticking to all required standards and regulations.
Not to mention the final product’s price: a solution that is too expensive for any type of telecom service provider has little chance of being adopted worldwide. They can provide this service to any network — mobile, landline, or even a software calling application — because their solution is out-of-band.
All basic telecom protocols are supported by AB Handshake, so the solution may be up and running in a couple of days. Another important benefit of the basic architecture is affordable price with no CAPEX.
In less than a year, AB Handshake has been published in various major industry journals and has been shortlisted as a powerful global call validation solution by several anti-fraud working groups at GSM Association and by i3Forum.
They are currently forming a community of service providers who share their goal of removing fraud in inter-operator voice communication after thorough internal testing.
Furthermore, they are now building a similar approach for SMS traffic. Based on continuing discussions, AB Handshake has already attracted over 100 clients, and they hope it to be used as a confirmation standard by the majority of operators by 2023.
